SMS poetry competition

“Sur ts les murs de ma 6T...”

On Saturday 24 October, the ‘Maison de la Poésie’ in Namur and the mobile telephony operator BASE have rewarded the laureates of the 4th SMS poetry contest. The contest was organized this time around the central theme “J’écris ton nom, liberté”, a poem of Eluard. Thomas Gomez grabbed the first prize, with a high quality and dynamical poem. The class of 1A of the Athenée Royal in Chimay got rewarded with the first prize for Schools.

“BASE deems the theme of ‘Liberty’ very important, as the slogan ‘freedom of speech’ proves. And it has inspired numerous poets”, says Florence Muls, press officer of BASE. “This fourth edition of the SMS poetry contest in Namur even saw a record number of entries: 520 poems, in SMS or poetry language.”

This year, numerous classes participated for the first time in the contest. The collective reflection and the guidance of the teacher turn the SMS poem into a real literary form, who is being accepted and reckoned more and more in pedagogical environments.

Il ya a comme un stress,
on n'enferme pas le mot de liberté
dans un SMS !
C'est là que le mot blesse.
